Phil Spector/Paterno are worthy of course, but I wanted some light-ish Al to close out the list. And I haven't seen Chinese Coffee in ten years.

1. The Godfather/The Godfather Part II
2. Scarface
He deserved 3 Oscars, for those three performances. Aside from that, I really like him in Donnie Brasco and The Insider. Never really connected to Dog Day Afternoon, the film or the performance.

More instinctive than concrete - a Top 30 (five more than Viced - take that!) - also insane how I'm leaving off other perfs I like a lot like Merchant of Venice, Dick Tracy, City Hall, People I Know, Stand Up Guys, Salome, others too - some of those would make most other actors top tens! 1. Dog Day Afternoon 2. The Godfather: Part II 3. Angels in America 4. Donnie Brasco 5. Scarecrow 6. The Godfather 7. You Don’t Know Jack 8. Serpico 9. Scarface 10. Phil Spector 11. The Local Stigmatic 12. Panic in Needle Park 13. The Irishman 14. Sea of Love 15. Scent of a Woman 16. Glengarry Glen Ross 17. Heat 18. Insomnia 19. Paterno 20. Chinese Coffee 21. The Insider 22. Carlito's Way 23. The Humbling 24. Manglehorn 25. Danny Collins 26. Devil's Advocate 27. The Godfather: Part III 28. Frankie and Johnny 29. And Justice For All 30. Cruising

One of the remarkable things is that in his last two performances - not counting his small funny bit in OUATIH - is he gave total opposite types of great physical performances - in HBO's Paterno (not Emmy nominated which was ridiculous just like Anthony Hopkins in King Lear being left out) and The Irishman. In Paterno he dulls down all his charisma and is slow, slumped and sad and in The Irishman he brings all of his livewire charisma and is energetic and alive. I always look to see if actors can do physically what he did in Paterno, and turn his star-power off. It gives you an idea of how an actor can still be thinking at nearly 80 - although I guess before The Irishman people would have said he's just an old dude acting old in Paterno - but like I always say with him you don't always see the technique in real time in his work, viewers often reconsider, rethink and "catch up" with his performances.

Well, he DID act old in Paterno. That was what I didn't like about him in this movie. His expressions and delivery of his lines was great but his body movements were like he was crawling to his grave... I know he played a very old and ill guy so maybe it's me. I was expecting to see something like YDKJ or maybe Spector.

The entire timeline of Paterno takes place only over a couple months.......
