Well, another year is finally in the books, as I've seen everything I really felt I needed/wanted to out of 2018. So over the next couple of days, I will be releasing my 2018 nominees in video form, as I usually do. Winners to be announced in June.

The score's part of the mix dude.
Seriously though, some fine choices there. Have a feeling Mandy is going to be juggernaut.

I'm a tad trepidatious that we'll be seeing more Hereditary here but so far these are great and I'm a total sucker for sound montages like these

I know it is, but the clips I originally picked to demonstrate good sound mixing with score didn't jibe well, so I decided to cut it similarly to Sound Editing. Even then, it still didn't come out quite as well as I wanted.

I always love these videos ... and it seems that they’re better than ever right now! That score lineup is particularly godly, and I can’t wait to see the rest of your nominations.

where does "Psifonian" come from? I've always wondered that I've got shit to do but I'll watch these later. It's always cool to see your picks It goes back to my college days. I was in two music fraternities: Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Anyone who was in both organizations was colloquially referred to as a "Psifonian." The name just stuck.
Hope you like my picks -- they're sure to ruffle some feathers.

One thing I like about your lineups is that it's clear you try to watch a pretty broad number of films before making them, so even when I disagree with your picks, I feel that it's genuinely your favorite selections for the category, chosen from an impressively big host of stuff - lends a lot more merit to a "best of" ranking. This is something the Academy does not convince me of From some of your comments throughout the year I'm prepared for an indomitable Favourite sweep. Hoping to see some love for Scruggs and First Reformed, easily my two favorites from 2018.

I take my time to watch as many films as possible before putting these together, rather than trying to race against the proverbial clock to time my lineups with the Academy's. It causes some delays, but I find it to be far more thorough and less open to getting swept up in immediate hype before realizing that I might not have loved something as I thought I did.

Loving these so far! Shocked to see Roma stiffed in the sound categories though, especially mixing. Cuaron really brought that setting to life with the sound. I wonder if it has a chance in cinematography or it's going to be completely left out. Can't wait to find out Nice to see someone else showing up for Hurwitz and "I'll Never Love Again" too. Hoping to see some love for Scruggs, First Reformed, Beale Street, and I know there's going to be some love for The Rider.

I'll commend for some overall great choices that you presented beautifully.
But I will condemn for the lack of "Scruggs" in cinematography. Also surprised Overlord didn't get into makeup for you.

Yeah, Cinematography was such a stacked year for me and it pained me to leave some films out -- Scruggs being one of them. I think Delbonnel really brings the best out of the Coens, perhaps even more than Deakins does. Overlord was actually eighth in line, and just missed out.

Did you get the adapted "inspired by" for Stan & Ollie, from anywhere other than imdb? As it isn't listed on such on the script and was FYC'd in Original.

I was expecting to see Sissy Spacek in the lineup. She made a good run for it, but by the end she just fell short. A real shame, too -- she was a real jewel in that movie (which, I suppose, is why her character was named Jewel).
