I don't really understand this release date at all. I guess it could end up appealing to voters more than I think it will, but I think it will do so poorly at the box office that it would have to do exceptionally well with critics to make up for that which I don't see happening.
Of course, I've been wrong before and will continue to be in the future, so maybe this is one of those times again.

Okay I amend my earlier feelings. It could be a tech player (costumes, production design, score), and maybe even Best Actress because the category doesn't seem that competitive this year, but that better be all that it's nominated for. I don't think I can handle Eddie Redmayne nominated for a third time this decade.

Best Actor has been linked as closely as any acting category to BP, so I’m inclined to think he may be able to coattail off the strength of the film. And we already know he’s going to pull out all the stops on the campaign trail lol.

ETA: It looks pretty, but I don't know still having doubts because of Amazon's funky release schedule for this. They definitely should had it debut in IMAX theaters first like originally planned to take advantage of how it looks.
Also I'm not still not sure about the audience for this. I mean it looks charming, but I don't know if anyone is going to rush out to see a film about a hot air balloon ride, or be excited to stream it at home because it seems too old fashioned to me in some ways.

Looks pretty good, actually. I get a lot more chemistry and dynamic between Jones and Redmayne in just a few short moments here than I ever did in their last pairing.
It feels like if Jules Verne decided to write Gravity, and I am on board with that.

I like Redmayne and Jones but that doesn't look interesting to me.
Plus, it's when I watch movies like this that I realize I 'm afraid of heights....

Well, it’s Amazon, so surely they mean December 20, 2020.
Also: I genuinely can’t stand either Jones or Redmayne, and this trailer only continued to enforce that, so I think this’ll be a hard pass for me unless buzz is like insanely positive. Cool that she gets top billing over him though.

It feels like a hybrid of Gravity and every single british period piece made by Stephen Frears copycats - which is a quite odd mix, and I think it could be interesting. Visually very good, and I hope the visual spectacle is enough to overcome Redmayne's and Jones' chronic lack of charisma. I'm hopeful!

Im sorry....dec 6 and then dec 20 window is fucking ridiculous. It is. Again let me say I don't know what Amazon was doing this year. Isn't the beginning of December right after Thanksgiving but before the kids get out for break a slow time for theaters? Weird that they would release that into theaters then especially when at least The Report is opening up in November, and will be on Amazon Prime right in time for Thanksgiving. I can at least see voters watching that early because of Driver's one-two punch of it and Marriage Story. I think Amazon could have got families invested in watching The Aeronauts during the winter break, but I don't think it's going to have a lot of hype since it's not getting a major release now across the country, and the "WOW!" factor probably isn't going to be there as much because of that. They should have released it like they had planned, and then later it can build up a following on streaming because I don't think it can be an event thing like Bird Box or To All the Boys I've Loved Before because Bird Box had Sandra Bullock and a very effective promotion from Netflix, and TATBILB was able to appeal to a certain demographic, I don't see that here with The Aeronauts.
