So I spent the entire day yesterday to watch Season 2 entirely. And I am glad I did because i made the mistake and spread Season 1 over several days and it does make a much bigger impact to give it a "movie" treatment and watch it as one complete thing. The story itself was not as intriguing or original as when Season 1 premiered but for me it was all about the characters and their development. And there surely are many surprises, also in the way the characters bond, some of you would never have expected at Season 1. Anyway, this was the best part of the show. Another great part were the surprisingly good visual effects and the fact that they did not go over the top with that. Acting wise I have no complaints either. The kids were just as good as in the first one. Winona Ryder was a tard better and David Harbour got way more to do and was brilliant. From the original cast I think Joe Keery improved most. Thanks to the excellent character development he was able to give a really great performance as well. From the newest additions I really loved Sean Astin, who SO belonged into this show as well as Sadie Sink who was great. Paul Reiser also has a good character you never really can come in terms if he is a goodie or a baddie. Writing was amazing, soundtrack tremendous and direction very good. I really cannot wait for the next Season now.

He certainly has been the most impressive in cast so far. To think he was hardly in S1, I wonder if the producers/creators kinda knew he had some grade-A talent, or felt incredibly lucky when he delivered in S2.

Halfway thru. Anybody else kinda blown away by Noah Schnapp's acting chops (Will Byers) ? Right! I've watched four episodes, and he's really blowing me away. He's risen to the best non-MBB child performance of the show, and I really like Finn Wolfhard.

I think they knew as I think it was always on the menu that season 2 will circle around him. Yeah he was the best of the kids for sure. Even better than Millie this season.

Halfway thru. Anybody else kinda blown away by Noah Schnapp's acting chops (Will Byers) ? I didn’t think a kid like him would be able to pull off PTSD of that level... oh man, is he a revelation in this season! That stuff was gut-wrenching.

I’ll update here with full thoughts in the next few days, but short thoughts... this is my new favorite show. And I get complaints about The Lost Sister, but personally, none of that matters to me. I don’t care that it’s tangential. I don’t care it boils down to ”El leaves Hawkins, and then comes back”. I don’t care that it has nothing to do with everything else except to set up possible Season 3 material. It gave me exactly what I wanted to see. El gets more story and development, is put in intriguing new environments, is forced to confront the moral grayness of her actions, and the ending has so much catharsis. And Millie Bobby Brown is a bonafide star. Just incredible!

One thing I'll throw shit at it for is killing Bob, who a) shouldn't have died and b) didn't deserve that cut back of him being devoured. He was a great new edition. Yeah, what the fuck was that? After all the effort for him to get out of there, he closes a set of doors and suddenly thinks he's safe when the thing was already chasing him? Instead of running his ass out the door ASAP, he just stares at Joyce from afar for at least 5 seconds, just waiting to get mauled. Very frustrating. Overall, this show still doesn't really click with me all the way. The last two episodes were mostly great, but a lot of the stuff that came before was either frustrating or unnecessary. Episode 7 was HORRRRRRRRIBLE. The biggest waste of an episode since the penultimate episode of Bloodline. Also, I wanted to knock Dustin's teeth out for the majority of the season. Really liked the addition of Reiser and Astin this season, at least. And likable Steve Harrington was nice.

Just finished season 2
The Lost Sister episode absolutely sucked. Uncalled for imo.
BUT overall I dug this season (not as good as season one) but I'll take it for sure. The kids were great once again.
Bring on season 3

Even though I think S1 was leaner and smoother, I appreciate that they tried to make S2 more ambitious by expanding the world and coming up with new ideas. S1 was real good popcorn fun but it felt a bit too derivative, a bit too much of a compilation of stuff we've seen before. S2 tries to go in its own directions which is most welcome. Most of it works, some of it doesn't. I liked the overall idea behind E7 for instance (just the general concept of an episode devoted entirely to Eleven) but the execution was lacking. It wasn't a bad episode but it did stand out like a sore thumb. This amalgamation of monster movies of the 80s didn't necessarily need a Walter Hill/X-Men-lite addition to it. But hey, overall the season was really rather engaging and entertaining. As with S1, the best thing about this series is still the interaction and the chemistry between the main cast. The new cast members fit the world pretty nicely (even Billy, although I hated the guy). And I particularly love how Steve was developed and how much I ended up rooting for him. His team-up with Dustin was awesome. And the reunion of Mike and Eleven was very powerful too. My favorite thing in this entire series thus far has been the Snow Ball at the very end here - a really moving moment of calm and genuine warmth. It was heartbreaking to see Dustin sitting on the bench in tears but it all worked out well. I even kinda sorta wish that the season ended right there with the ball without showing the shadow monster once again. But hey, it's Stranger Things so I get it. I wonder how that creature/entity is going to be explored in the future. So far I like it far more as the main big baddie than the Demogorgon.
All in all, this was a very enjoyable experience. I don't think this series amounts to much more than solid bubble gum entertainment, but hey, bubble gum can be pretty damn tasty. Let's see where they take it next. Hoping for two things: 1) no more tortures for Will (the kid has been through a lot), 2) something interesting with the Lost Sister (and perhaps the other Numbers).

I'd also like to mention that the whole Barb thing was really forced. It felt like the filmmakers did it just to please the internet community which (for some reason) picked Barb as their favorite. Let's face it - she was just meat to be eaten in S1, it should've stayed that way.

I genuinely can't get my head around why people latched onto her so much, she was nothing more than a notch above a redshirt.

Been too busy to binge this like I would have wanted, but I just watched the infamous episode 7. Definitely on the negative side of the divide. It wasn't abysmal or anything, but it felt grossly unnecessary and very un-Stranger Things. I really hope it wasn't intended as set-up for Season 3.

As you'll see from my previous posts I loved season 1 and season 2 was just fine until it went off the rails in the last 3 episodes and deflated.
Show lost the pop culture balance, had to give too many characters too much time, lost the sense of menace - this was the goody goody version of something that was better when it kept you off balance. It didn't suck but everything that made the show special has now with the way this played out become codified and like a product push.
Disappointed and I don't know if there gonna make a return to form but my advice would be ............Stay weird.

The first season wasn’t flawless but I loved it. Still, when it started wrapping up and a renewal was on the horizon — I was hoping it would go the American Horror Story route and we could follow new stories and character each year. Or even stranger things that were following others in the town in a different era similar to Fargo. Maybe I’m just curious to see what the Duffer brothers have in store outside the Upside Down.
Despite all that, I was looking forward to going on another adventure with these kids. Nostalgia is all the rage these days, but I thought this go around was super try-hard with shoving tropes and obvious songs down your throat. With all the subplots to balance, it was badly in need of more breathing room.
I was glad the likes of Steve and Joyce were given more to do this season, but for the new characters the only one I gave a shit about was Sean Astin in all his Patton Oswalt-turned glory (and he was still laying it on pretty thick). I’m just not sure what to think — it felt really aimless, predictable and just going through the motions. A lot of Eleven sitting on a couch, serious lack of Mike (due to filming It, I assume), Paul Reiser pouting, Hopper yelling, poor Will being treated like shit again… rinse and repeat. Maybe the freshness of the first outing has warn off, but I wasn’t very invested in much of anything going on. I did enjoy some of the lighter moments (that pull out scene was great).
Everyone I know who binged it said it had a rough start but gets better, but I thought it stayed about the same the whole way through and ended with a whimper. I saw some complaints for Eleven’s bottle episode but I thought it was fine. The whole thing was just… fine. I’m sad.

Only up to Chapter 2.5... but I'm liking it so far. A bit slower than I remember the first season being, but I hope it pays off later on.
Steve is 100% the MVP so far this season.

Loved it. Completely satisfying (minus the unnecessary episode 7). Steve as the babysitting brought a bunch of new and interesting material. Can't wait for Season 3. Last 2 episodes are pure greatness. The dance - all the feels

Finally finished it!!!
Didn't quite have the same spark the first season did, but I thoroughly enjoyed it still.
Biggest complaint has to be the 80's punk rock hooligans. Not entirely sure why they were included.

Totally forgot about this thread, and it's been two weeks since I finished it, which means most of you have probably already seen it and I don't have to include spoiler tags, sooooooo - LOVED IT. Got hooked from the very beginning. I lit up seeing the gang together again. Not just the boys but Hopper, Eleven, Steve, Nancy, Jonathan. Max and Bob were fantastic new additions. Billy was a magnificently despicable bastard. Kinda makes me forget about Dacre Montgomery being in Power Rangers. - Really dug "The Lost Sister" and wish we could have found at least one other experimented child, but I love Kali and her whole trip with Eleven. - Loved how Steve's role in the season played out. Loved him joining the boys on their mission. I was pretty hurt for him after Nancy's drunk rant. But in all honesty I do prefer Jonathan and Nancy. - The kid actors are freaking incredible. Noah Schnapp is gutwrenching and I was basically keeping my fingers crossed that Will made it to the end of the season alive. I mean, the whole cast is pretty on point, but that kid really stood out. - I kinda hate admitting that I'm shipping characters, but I was HYPED for my boy Lucas with Max. - The Nancy/Dustin dance was cute and I love how it was handled. - Still not sure I have many criticisms...I was satisfied with damn near all of it.

Not as good as the first season but I enjoyed the show. I do agree with anyone who says that "The Lost Sister" just felt filler and was a bad episode.
The kid who played Will really shined this season.
Anyone watching Beyond Stranger Things?
