I voted for Williams and Portman. Surprised to see that Scarlett still has no vote, is it possible that even here people think she is a bad actress? I just did not vote for her and Dunst because I could only select two options. I think that Elizabeth Olsen, Lea Seydoux, Evan Rachel Wood, Amanda Seyfried, Bryce Dallas Howard, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Olivia Wild and Rebecca Ferguson should have been included in the list ...... I agree that the actresses born in this decade are a bit weak compared to those of the 1970s, but I think one of the reasons is because most of them only had their breatkhrough in the beginning of this decade, so we'll see how their careers will be in the next decade. ... I myself really like Johansson, and I do think she has at least one more great performance in her besides the marvelous Lost In Translation (she would've easily be my #1 in any given year, but to go against Kidman in Dogville and Theron in Monster is unfair). She's mostly good, but the problem is that even her best work (LIT notwithstanding) feel light-weigh comparing to the likes of Portman, Dunst, Mara, Williams... She hasn't played parts that require her to transform somehow, to be more intense or more naturalistic, to play a wide range of characters. You can sense that she's no one-trick pony, but she hasn't really showed all she's got.

She is great in LoT and Under the Skin but definitely not one of the two best here for me. Seydoux and Howard definitely should have been listed. Seyfried and Ferguson are better than some of the ones that are.

Portman Williams
Need to see more of Rebecca Hall and Brie Larson, who usually also deliver.

Emma Stone over Natalie Portman, Lupita Nyongo, Rooney Mara, and Michelle Williams??? You are all out of your mind in this goddamn forum!!! It's because people find her sexy/cute/attainable/relatable - even more than Portman - and her filmography is more impressive at least on the surface - which matters for every actor - except Denzel Washington who we pretend has a solid filmography because we lie to ourselves a lot here on MAR - that's a joke...........sort of. I remember hearing the song "Emma Stone" by Kurt Baker and thinking "Wait..........Is she famous enough to have a song about her at all?" (she was but I didn't get the full phenomenon - especially this kind of fawning song) and then came ..................Birdman, La, La Land, The Favourite.......she had a whole burgeoning cult before that success even......

Oh honey, we need to talk about... Mia Wasikowska. I think she has great potential to be a really interesting actress.

I am already all over on here calling Williams best of her generation and that includes Lawrence too (born 1990) - when this is all said and done, people will wonder why this was ever a debate imo. I don't think she's peaked yet either...... Because I have a certain reputation to uphold on here (um), even though she's not on this poll - there's no actress 40 or under in the world better than our modern Huppert - .............. Adèle Haenel who is a once in a generation (if you're lucky) talent and who I try to mention every few weeks. Born Feb. 11th, 1989

Stone has often been good but she has not touched Scarlett's highs in LiT, Under the Skin, or Marriage Story. Scarlett reminds me a lot of Natalie Portman in that they can both be spotty but are great around twice a decade. With actresses getting better roles into their 50's and 60's now she could have an excellent legacy at the end of the day if she keeps that up.

And yet Stone, despite being an inferior actress is the one who got better opportunities and worked with filmmakers like Chazelle, Inarritu, or keeps being requested by Lanthimos. Go figure.

You're acting like Scarlett doesn't get opportunities ... She has worked with Coppola, Coens Brothers, Glazer, Jonze, Crowe, Baumbauch, Waititi, Allen, Nolan, De Palma, Zwigoff, etc.

Alicia Vikander and Michelle Williams.
I needed a Dawson's Creek revision to get Williams back in the forefront of my mind, but how did I forget..... the woman who did Wendy and Lucy and Blue Valentine....and those kinda Americana films like Meek's Cutoff and Land of Plenty (lesser so Meek's Cutoff more Land of Plenty) is the most talented actress born in the 80s. Still need to see Fosse/Verdon and Manchester by the Sea.
Rooney Mara was my favorite in the early 10s, but since 2013 she's been kinda boring so she's fallen way off for me where I used to be a lover.

Michelle Williams Adele Haenel Emma Stone Taraneh Alidoosti Aubrey Plaza Nina Arianda
Those are my favs at the moment.....
Special shout-out to Plaza who can be hilariously offhand but who's also a sneakily deep, daring actor.... with that trifecta of Ingrid Goes West, Black Bear, Emily the Criminal. She was a producer on those three as well... and they share a similar wayward, imploding quality that's notably different from her signature shrug-off humor like in Parks-nRec (over a hundred eps) where she's so good. She works a lot and could climb these '80s-ranks quick..... White Lotus S2 in a few weeks, a blockbuster action lead in the tank (that Guy Ritchie movie), Megalopolis......

Emma Stone getting so many votes is strange. She's easily worse a dramatic actress than 80% of the people listed here.
