I thought this was very good overall. It had a great script, with mostly rather witty dialogue and the cast were all on the top of their games. Now, it hardly turned the wheel or anything, and it really was treading ground already cover many times before, but it tread this well worn ground really well. The Superbad comparisons are obviously completely valid, but I thought this was more consistently funny than Superbad, so I'm not complaining.

I thought it was rubbish. So smugly proud of its own annoying wokeness, so reliant on worn-out tropes of teen comedies, so unfunny. I sure didn't expect to watch the supposed female Superbad with IQ-Dynes face throughout the whole thing. Almost every scene/line seems to be created for Twitter approval and the film weirdly seems to take place in some kind of uber-privileged rose-glassed world where everyone is an awesome cool woke person, where there're no bad people or even mixed-up people, where the folks who are nasty to you are actually these kewl kids who all speak in this laid-back kind of way and all of whom are gonna go to Yale or Harvard or working for Google. Even a fucking maniac gets a scene in which he's uber-conscious about the girls' safety. Such an annoying experience.

This was pretty fun. Not every joke hit and some of the “wokeness” felt forced, but the two leads are generally funny and have good chemistry. The plot hits all of the beats one would expect from this genre, particularly when the story gets dramatic. Olivia Wilde does solid as a director, more camera movement than a lot of similar Hollywood comedies which was nice. The long take during the argument scene with the shallow depth of field was particularly good.

So finally this also reached the cinemas of my little country. The comparison to Superbad is almost automatically and I think they are about the same level. Quite a funny film, but not the revelation some critics see in it. I think this is a bit more clever than Superbad (which really doesn't say much though), in that way that it goes deeper under the skin of the two main characters and despite having a totally shrill and fun surface also has a more serious component. But at the same time this is one of it's flaws, cause the mix doesn't always work.
Some of the lines and scenes are hilarious, some are flat or even plain stupid for me, but yeah I had a few moments where I could laugh pretty much. A good point is the broad mass of side characters (Gigi was probably my favorite), but even there is the con that the film obviously hasn't the time to elaborate them more. It's just the cheap "ooh, surprise, the character has more to it than it seems...". Some of them are annoying though and also it was pretty obvious to me where the film was going to with most of the characteres anyways and also aside from this it fulfills the usual cliches. (But generally I don't have a problem with cliches if they work).
The film relies heavily on it's two main characters and there I have to say I liked Kaitlyn Dever way more than Beanie Feldstein. Maybe cause she has the cleary more interesting character and story, while Molly got on my nerves heavily - as well as did many scenes, which involved those two exclusively.
So, around 6.5 I'd say.

This is like Girls' Superbad except it is more goofy than raunchy and less funny compared to that film but more earnest and the two girls had chemistry. Dever and Feldstein were pretty good. Wilde has some cool ideas but she was trying too hard at times but she ended the movie pretty well- 7/10
