She's curiously under-discussed for such a major, Oscar-winning star. I saw Butterflies Are Free over the weekend - a beautiful film - highly recommended! Now I want to see all of her movies.

She's the best. A luminous treasure whose charm knows no bounds.

Could never stand her tbh. I don't find her attractive, every time she opens her mouth I want to punch myself in the face - that ditz thing just grates on me, as an actress she's merely capable at best - I mean she's been fine over her career but nah, life is too short..........I like her no talent daughter even less. Feels good to say that.........we don't talk about her enough

I think she's a rather good actress, with screen presence and charisma to burn.

A good actress, talented comic performer.
I like her performances in Cactus Flower, Pr. Benjamin, Sugarland Express and of course in my favorite film with her in it, Death Becomes Her.

Another one of our gems. Curious to see how she would've fared in another era. Like the 90s.
The only role missing in her career is the ultimate hippie renegade.

What Stephen said! I haven't disliked her in anything but my favorites are Cactus Flower and Shampoo.

I don't think she's awful in Cactus Flower..... She just had to do a lot to stand out in the landmark year that is 1969 for supporting actress. Greatest Supporting Actress Lineup of all time, and one of the best years in the category all time.
1. Susannah York - They Shoot Horses, Don't They? 2. Dyan Cannon - Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice 3. Ingrid Bergman - Cactus Flower 4. Goldie Hawn - Cactus Flower 5. Catherine Burns - Last Summer 6. Pamela Franklin - The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie 7. Diana Rigg - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Digestible to a point. She’s her own brand and give her credit to that, but no matter if she’s in Private Benjamin or that Steve Martin unwatchable NY movie, she’s always giving the same schtick ( Cactus Flower seems like an anomaly because it was fresh but the attractive is lost through the decades ), a few good stuff here and there but I wouldn’t devote a marathon to her.
Her best is Shampoo because she’s forced to get out of her usual thing but not losing what she does good.

I don't understand how anyone could prefer Bergman to Hawn in Cactus Flower. Granted they're very different performances but Bergman in the film has all the charisma of a slice of toast next to Hawn's energy. If you're going to have these two women star in the same film, don't have them be two points in a love triangle, that's all I'm saying.
Also a couple more points. First, Hawn was lead in the film and the only reason she wasn't campaigned as such was because she was a newcomer in 1969 (if the film had been made in 1985 with Hawn in the same role you know she would have campaigned in lead). Secondly, no one deserved to win in that supporting field more than Hawn, least of all York.

Tommen_Saperstein - I'm glad you're so passionate about Goldie in CF, but they were all very good. It was just a great year with a lot of great performances, I don't necessarily prefer one over the other. I just think Susannah York is the be-all-and-end-all.

For sure, Death Becomes Her is one of the good ones, alongside with Overboard, Sugarland and even A Girl in My Soup but I think most of the time she’s doing the same thing, you would think that after a long break she would come reloaded to fill the screen but her Schummer film was the same old thing, but that doesn’t take anything from her great performances, incluiding as Tommen said, her lead turn in Cactus Flower.

I think she's awful in Cactus Flower - that she looks like Jacob Tremblay in Wonder is another thing

The tracking butt-in-jeans shots of HouseSitter are, um, interesting. It fails to service the story in any way.

She's definitely underrated yet it's understandable given her limited pool of high quality films through the years. Apart from this, she was exceptional in Private Benjamin. She is indeed a very energetic and talented actress.

She is indeed a very energetic and talented actress. I don't agree she's underrated. She's a comic actress and nothing more than that. She's been in some very good movies, worked with some high profile directors and got an Oscar and another one nomination. She could have worked more (and probably should) but that's all. I don't consider her underrated.

She made very few movies. And most were commedies. So it's impossible to make an opinion. If she is a good, a very good or excellent actress.
