I watched The Miracle Worker recently, and before this video I never had the opportunity to hear Helen Keller speak... It just filled me with so much joy.

Some stuff related to the Arts for me - Olivier's insane work ethic is inspirational, no one comes close to that, it almost isn't fathomable. Alex Chilton who did something no one else ever did - started his career very famous and successful, then became cultish and obscure but is remembered for the work he did while cultish and obscure NOT famous and successful - I love that, it never happens (almost never, Scott Walker would be another but I like Chilton more ). On a different note, people who have survived, endured, like Sharon Stone had a stroke at like 43 maybe (?), was literally dead on the table, couldn't remember scripts for a year, couldn't walk or talk has triumphed and if you didn't know that story you'd think she had the easiest life with everything that goes along with it.......

Having rewatched Gorillas in the Mist recently, I really must refer Dian Fossey and all of those who have the courage to stand up and fight against injustice in order to defend those that can't be heard: gorillas in this case, and animals in general. These are some of the people that inspire me the most. We need more like them. This is one of my favorite scenes of the film:

I just came back from Mississippi - I'm still thinking about the unsung men and women who fought for Civil Rights. They are so much braver than I could ever hope to be.

* Some stuff related to the Arts for me - Olivier's insane work ethic is inspirational, no one comes close to that, it almost isn't fathomable. * Alex Chilton who did something no one else ever did - started his career very famous and successful, then became cultish and obscure but is remembered for the work he did while cultish and obscure NOT famous and successful - I love that, it never happens (almost never, Scott Walker would be another but I like Chilton more ). * On a different note, people who have survived, endured, like Sharon Stone had a stroke at like 43 maybe (?), was literally dead on the table, couldn't remember scripts for a year, couldn't walk or talk has triumphed and if you didn't know that story you'd think she had the easiest life with everything that goes along with it....... I'd add Muhammad Ali - who lost almost 4 years from his occupation 25 - almost 29 for an extremely unpopular stance - NO ONE agreed with him or was on his side at the time in a way that mattered ...............there was no guarantee that he would ever make that money back or knew he would eventually be proven "right" (to some) or even be sure that he wouldn't be killed actually. Unlike say Djokovic who I admire for just being a stubborn prick or Colin Kaepernick who was just a shitty quarterback who fell assbackwards into mllions ........ Ali's form of protest was entirely rational and consistent and with huge potential consequences. He could have cut a deal - he could have paid somebody off ......etc It was his best moment, it was about his God - which I would gently add is missing not only on MAR (actually think and pray more - and first (um)) but in our overall cultural posturing in 2022 - and he had that moment during the years where he would have been "at his best" in his profession .........and that he turned his back on for a higher and entirely logical purpose. He didn't "dodge the draft" .........at all.........and he accepted the potential consequences of societal opinion, of culture and of law too......I have a hard time thinking of something as admirable as Ali's conscientious objector situation.
