Usually two I reference and I think about constantly are Albert Finney's 2 1994 film performances - The Browning Version and A Man of No Importance.
These are polar opposite performances, won 0 awards, by the actor on our poll that I put as the 2nd greatest UK actor after Olivier and before DDL .......these are not widely seen films at all.......yet I consider them as great in one year as any actor has ever had.
Marvelously conflicting portraits of male sexuality, love, pride, intellect, understanding and sadness .........if you want to know what I like in acting it is this, period - others would look right passed them. I'm afraid I don't see much in the last 25 years in film that has touched me as much as these either - certainly not in the same year by the same guy ..........I often say "oh this actor is terrific" blah blah blah, and that's sort of true but there is also a deeper truth: there's a handful of actors on his level and only a handful that could play these specific 2 roles and that I view through quite the same lens.
Up until Feb 7 2019 he was arguably the greatest living actor (in English) to me ......without many even in that argument either.

From time to time, I remember Brando's perf in Last Tango. Not his performance as a whole but especially his monologue beside his wife's deathbed.
Electrifying!!

Anthony Wong - Ebola Syndrome: A performance that's simply comedic gold. It's a performance that once seen is very difficult to forget.
There are also two performances that I watched last month that which I consider the best I've seen this year and I just can't stop thinking about them: Sara Forestier in Games Of Love And Chance and Virginie Ledoyen in A Single Girl. While both are fantastic, they are also the two polar opposites in acting styles. The former is loud and showy while the latter is subtle and restraint.

Amy Adams from 2005-2010
It's hard to come up with someone who had such a great streak. I can count maybe 10 people in all of history who had the creativity and production she had in those golden years. She was pretty good after that, but I think her best period remains the late 00s. What's interesting is that she had what seemed like a similar formula, but it's done so well that she can create variations between characters and I can see the same thing I love about them each time.
Junebug, Enchanted, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, and The Fighter....... rank as some of my all-time favorites. I don't think anything else she did touches those 4, but one day she'll have something that will.

I tend to often think about great performances where you can question the mental health of the actor playing the role, Per Oscarsson in Sult, Patrick Dewaere in Serie Noire, Aleksey Kravchenko in Come and See, etc... you can feel that there is something wrong, disturbing, unsane that's going on in their mind (and it did leave some serious sequels to most of them), it can be shocking but in the same time it's what make the performances so unforgettable.
For pure screen presence and acting awesomeness, I rewatched Faye Dunuway's Columbo episode (It's All in the Game) few weeks ago, she's such a STAR in it.

Typically I find myself thinking about comedic performances more than any others, as I do have a tendency to always go to funnier film moments in my head. The likes of Oda Mae Brown, Mrs. White, Madeline Ashton, Rhonda Epinstalk, Brenda Meeks, Jim (The Waco Kid), Chunk, Nigel Tufnel, Dr. Rumack, Randy Pear and dozens of others, are unforgettable to me.
When all is said and done though, the one performance I think about more than any other, is Mona Lisa Vito.

One of the ones I used to champion in the old IMDB days is this one by Damian Lewis in 2004 which I still rank as the single best (male) performance at capturing a mental illness or schizophrenia specifically. I rank it ahead of Crowe, Fiennes, and Peter Greene's turn in Clean, Shaven.
It would be in my top 10 of that decade and he'd be standing side by side with much more famous movie names too. Really affected me and stunned me actually - I wasn't expecting this performance and still can't find a single flaw in it........and its high points are off the charts.
