Burstyn had a great career decade in her younger years (1970-1980): The Last Picture Show , The King of Marvin Gardens, The Exorcist, Harry and Tonto, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (with Scorsese), Same Time Next Year, Resurrection. Nominated for an Oscar for almost all of these films.. In fact, iirc, she was the one who picked Scorsese to direct Alice!! Extremely talented, one of the best of her era. A 2013 picture I love.

Oh honeys, this is from 2007, Samantha Morton on Nicole...
"It's more about women like Nicole Kidman wanting roles that are meant to be for me. Movie star actors have their people look at Oscar-worthy films for them. They are looking for that nomination, which is more likely to come in a lower-budget film. The directors of those films might have been in touch with people like myself, or maybe Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz or Maggie Gyllenhaal, before they've got a producer. You meet the director a few times, develop a rapport ... and before you know it they have Nicole Kidman doing your film because they've said to the director, 'You can have $50m if you have her.' So you get used to it."
I think she's referring to Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus, which turned out to be another Kidman sensation... losing $14m of its $16m budget at the box office. Despite the wigs and whispering, Kidman was completely wrong for the role of the plain looking Arbus and was far too glamorous and tall. I think Morton would have been a more interesting choice and much better.

The real life of Diane Arbus was fascinating enough that you didn't need to change a single thing in her story ........and if you wanted to provide a different perspective well you had Allan Arbus who in one of the most weirdly ironic twists in American fiction vs. reality is known to many as the psychiatrist in the TV show MASH - um (he's utterly marginalized and misrepresented in the film too). Instead they decided to create a whole other, wildly miscast, "imaginary" feminist scenario (wtf) - where women in the 50s were equivalent to Werewolves ( kidding but that's how simplistic it plays) and it's an incomprehensible approach. I can't think of another bio that is that misguidedly conventionalized in such a wrongheaded way towards its subject.

Oh honey, I have seen it but didn't 'get it'... Sometimes being this beautiful can be a hindrance... I'd also read Patricia Bosworth's bio and since Arbus had learned photography from Lisette Model, who's work is quite similar, the Lionel character was totally lost on me. I thought that perhaps Shainberg was going for some kind of kinky fur fetish thing... his previous movie was Secretary, after all, which was very spanky).

This is a real interesting interview with Ed Norton heaping praise on Dafoe, lavishly on Alec Baldwin (who he describes in Shakespeare like terms) and Ian McKellen - a whole lot of guys. This gets really interesting around 23:00 and then covers those guys but the whole thing is cool in a celebrity and movie way to leave on in the background and listen too - you can see how he struggles between how to act in Motherless Brooklyn and direct and maintain a story - maybe thinking too much about that and more actually - I'm not sure he's right about a lot of this but I like he's thinking about it. www.goldenglobes.com/articles/hfpa-conversation-edward-nortons-multiple-talents

Not only is she exactly right - he's done that 4 times now. If people ever wondered what's wrong with the disgusting term "actor's brand" - that is why I hate it, because actors worried about their money aren't artists in that same way as he is - their brand is merely "money". He gets copied a lot by a lot of actors, but he can't be copied in that way that Burstyn's referring to, he's an American original in this regard - his only really precedent is Olivier and that is in work ethic not really the specifics of the Art in this regard.

I am hyperventilating ..... Mattsby, TerryMontana, Viced.....what the what?!?!? DiCaprio did come around to that Pacino guy, eventually. When Hemphill asked about the Musso & Frank’s scene, DiCaprio indicated that there was a lot more to it than seen in the final cut, and that he hopes the outtakes emerge someday. He and Pacino actually spend months bonding. “There was a lot more in that sequence, because really Al sets up my entire career, and gives people an entire tapestry of what happened to me and what my destiny is. The essence of it is still there… I got to rehearse with Al at my house and his place for months beforehand, because we had these long sequences together. And then it was just a magical moment (on the set) — one on one with Al Pacino, almost three weeks that we were there doing these monologues. Someday we’ll see them see the light of day, because there was some great stuff there.”tribunecontentagency.com/article/once-upon-an-epic-panel-at-the-new-beverly-tarantino-dicaprio-pitt-and-robbie-reunite-to-talk-hollywood/

QT mentioned a bit of dialogue they trimmed where Pacino mentions Brando I think - but this is amazing, suggesting a much bigger scene. We know from set pics they also shot Pacino walking down Hollywood Blvd and then something in a car - so we might be getting a good chunk more of Pacino in that reported longer version!!!

Joaquin name-dropped Christian in his speech last night, noticing his absence and remarking that Christian is one of those co-nominees he still feels intimidated by.

Can't say it was the best of circumstances, but at least he put RESPECK on Leo's name.

Can't say it was the best of circumstances, but at least he put RESPECK on Leo's name. I remember during the time of Inception that, in an interview, Hardy and Murphy said DiCaprio was the hero for their generation of actors growing up, and Phoenix has basically said the same thing today.

Oh honeys, did I tell you about the time I was rubbing shoulders with A Listers and I had Tom Hanks yell, 'Who is she?... Call security. Get her off the set!' at me?...

I fear that is partly my fault actually, Legend. I was speaking to that asexual Dudley Do-Right just before his outburst - telling him how you could spice up several of his films with a sexy parody-twist: Shaving Ryan's Privates, Filthydelphia, Road To Erection etc. He almost choked on his grilled cheese and milk I can tell you that much - his virgin ears!

Oh honey, sorry for taking so long to reply... no, I don't have the crayolavirus.... Shaving Ryan's Privates... oh honey, that was a fun shoot. We got through a lot of stunt doubles that day... Only a few months ago I ran into ones of them, goes by the name Shirley now. Said I changed his life. I hear that a lot as I'm so inspirational... Oh honey, this self isolation is driving me crazy! How many more days am I going to have to live off Nachos and Fanta? I can't believe no one in my entourage can cook. Hope you are doing better, hon.
