Sort of funny...
Russell Crowe (New Zealand) Nicole Kidman (United States) Mel Gibson (United States) Sam Neill (New Zealand) Naomi Watts (United Kingdom)
It's also worth noting that Cate Blanchett's father was an American...

Excellent observation. Hugo Weaving was also born in Nigeria, and his parents are English.

Very true but I'd say the three most famous Australians right now are all actually Australian.

Russell Crowe (New Zealand) Sam Neill (New Zealand) I know you mean the country Australia, but if you want to say continent as well, then yes they're Australian in the same sense. New Zealand/Australia is almost the same to USA/Canada.

Nationality is such an arbitrary, random thing. I think the place where someone was raised/where their parents are from much more important regarding nationality than something so small as being born in a specific piece of landing. For example, Saoirse Ronan technically is from New York, but is there a more irish girl than her? Nothing about her is american, she wasn't raised there and that's not her culture. I don't know how what most of those people's lives growing up, but if they're like Kidman, I don't see why they shouldn't be australian.

Most countries have ius sanguinis, that means you keep the citizenship of your parents even if you are born in a different country. For instance, Amy Adams was born in Italy, but she can't have Italian citizenship.

Okay fair enough about it. I don't know what I was saying. I should point out that not actors, but Angus Young and most of the members of AC/DC were born in Scotland. I think Phil Rudd is the only member actual Australian.
