Streaming on Amazon Prime - I never watched it during its original run - currently at the beginning of Season 2, so please be mindful of spoilers in your replies! What do you think of the show? Its performances? I'm totally addicted to its breakneck pace and the unpredictable nature of its characters!

The performances are good but overall it's kind of a mixed bag when it comes to the storylines. Some seasons are excellent, others are . . . eh. Nothing out-and-out unwatchable, but I do think its general lack of consistency really does hurt it when stacked against some of FX's classics.
Still, best thing Close ever did and most of its regulars turn in some of their best work on it (Danson, Ivanek, Short).

1, 3, and 4 are top tier stuff.
2 is still really good when you watch it one-after-another. 5, on the other hand, is garbage.
As Stephen said, the performances are usually all around excellent with Close and Ivanek being all-time worthy.

I love her in most everything. Her work in The World According to Garp is one of my all time favorites as well.

I thought that show got better as it went along - to me I couldn't get it at first and it also weirdly seemed cheap to me in some way - it seemed a beat behind at first but it eventually it settled into a rhythm where all the performances stood out. I think the Close aspect is somewhat historic in you have major actress goes to series TV later and gets great acclaim for it.
I mean there's not many people who had tried that - although now its going to be a major thing - it already is - and it'll happen all the time as you see already with Penn, Douglas trying it. Close did it before anyone I think - certainly before Dustin Hoffman (Luck) and Kevin Spacey - I may be remembering it wrong but those three (and Irons in The Borgias I guess) sort of changed that particular landscape even though for example Hoffman's show didn't work out (and ended maddeningly just when it was really peaking) - Hoffman and Spacey were two time Oscar winners for Godsakes......

Love it. Close is all time great on it and the rest of the cast and guest stars are very strong. Kinda went downhill towards the end but it’s absolutelt worth watching.

Pretty great show overall. Little bit inconsistent but I consider Patty Hewes to be one of the great 21st century tv anti-heroes, right up there with Tony Soprano, Walter White etc. Lots of great supporting characters throughout the seasons, though Željko Ivanek remains my favorite.
Sometimes the non-chronological order works well in terms of pacing and creating mystery, but there were some occasions, such as season 4, where it felt like a hinderance. I’ve got a couple issues with the series finale but I won’t go into detail. i do still think it’s worth watching all the way through.

I finished the series last night. I really enjoyed it all the way through. Some really great performances. I think my least favorite season was 4... Goodman was really miscast, IMO.

I hated 5. I thought it was lackluster throughout and the finale was just terrible. That said, Dylan Baker > John Goodman.

I still think Darrell Hammond was one of the spookiest motherfuckers on television -- that guy needed much more screentime.

Yeah, I didn't quite get the S2 hate, but people said it was likely because I watched the season one-after-another. Hammond was pretty good... and he was definitely the best presidential impersonator ever on SNL (bless Hartmann, he didn't have enough time to get to the really great Clinton stuff).

That said, Dylan Baker > John Goodman. Absolutely. Dylan Baker really should be in more things... He's often cast as a chilling villain (which he's great at, don't get me wrong), but he was so sweet and warm in the BBC's recent production of "Little Women" that I'd like to see that side of him more often.
