It was one of my favorite shows from my childhood. I watched it 3 times the whole show, and I haven't seen single episode a few years. But I enjoyed every episode, and Steve is one of the funniest and memorable TV characters.. I don't know why it has such low rating (6.6) on IMDb, I think it's better than Malcom in the Middle.

I liked it as a kid when it was a staple of the TGIF line-up... but I'm about 99% sure that I'd hate it as an adult. My adult cynicism would want to claw my ears off every time Urkel was on screen.
Plus, there are those ridiculous plot lines like Stephan.

Yes, I use to watch TGIF every week until I guess I just outgrew it because I never saw the finales of Family Matters and Full House until they were in syndication. On both accounts, I did/do pretty much hate them as adults. I found Urkel to be funny when I was a kid, but as an adult, I wondered why Carl didn't kill Urkel. I think that he could have realistically pleaded insanity and got away with it. With Full House, Michelle always annoyed me, I guess because I was already too old to find her antics cute or relatable, but as an adult, the show just seems too corny and dumb downed to enjoy it at all. Plus, Michelle comes across as even more of a brat.

One of my favorite TGIF shows growing up too. I agree that Steve Urkel is one of the funniest and memorable TV characters. I even caught some syndication airing of it from time to time. It's been a while since I saw a last syndication.

It's been a while since I saw a last syndication. The only problem is that some actors left (especially Judy is gone, but from what I've heard, she left because she wanted more money) or replaced by other actors. It's a bit mess, but I loved it anyway.

I heard about the latter case too regarding Judy's actress. Weird how later seasons pretended she didn't exist at all. Kinda sad in a way too how Steve Urkel's popularity overshadowed other supporting characters on the show. Even Jo Marie Payton almost wanted to leave the show permanently (since it was supposed to be her spin-off). But at the same time he also saved the show, since it was initially on the verge of cancellation before his debut.

Yeah, I think they said that Season 10 about the wedding would be finale, but it got cancelled.

I can't believe I forgot about this gem, but your post about the other cast wanting to leave reminded me. I didn't know that the actress who played Judy left on her own. I always thought she was written out to save the show money like how other shows cut out one of the kids like Happy Days, Boy Meets World, or That '70s Show.

I haven't watched the show in forever, but watching reruns was the best.

The show started off pretty funny. But it started getting worse and worse every new season. Definitely shouldn't have stayed on as long as it did.

As Fish stated, it was probably my favorite show during my childhood. While everyone was watching Fresh Prince, I was tuning into Family Matters day and night. But I'm both curious and skeptical about watching it again as an adult. I, too, feel like I'd hate Urkel and wouldn't find him as hilarious as I did as a kid, but I also trust childhood me because I hated a lot of annoying characters that people found lovable then (i.e. Jerry of Tom and Jerry, Foghorn Leghorn, Elmer Fudd, etc.) so the fact that I didn't hate Urkel could mean something.
But really it was Reginald VelJohnson that saved it for me every week. He was incredible on that show from what I remember, so I wouldn't mind watching it again simply for him.
