Scarlett: Kiera Knightley Rhett: Ryan Gosling Don't know about GWTW but these two need to be in a movie together.

Except for Gosling everyone's too old for those roles. Scarlett begins the story at the age of 15 and ends at the age of 28. Melanie is a year or two older. Ashley is also just few years older than Melanie and Scarlett. Only Rhett is already in his 30s at the beginning of the story.
Also, GWTW is now taken off the list of best American movies or something cause it shows "happy slavery" or such bullshit.

No effin' idea. A remake to this is a bad idea for many reasons but also because the casting would have to be perfect to justify it.
10-15 years ago George Clooney as Rhett, Drew Barrymore as Scarlett, and Anne Hathaway as Melanie could have maybe worked. They're all too old for those parts now, though.

That story would look dated and stale now.

Scarlett O’Hara – Saoirse Ronan Rhett Butler – Tom Hardy Ashley Wilkes – Nicholas Hoult Melanie Hamilton – Olivia Cooke
The age gap between Hardy and Ronan is 17 years, which I realize is a lot... however, I’m fairly certain Scarlett is 16 at the start of the novel while Rhett is around 33 so it’s about the same. Maybe?

Scarlett: Rooney Mara Rhett: Michael Fassbender Melanie Hamilton: Olivia Wilde? Ashley Wilkes: Henry Cavill This is better than the one below. Fassbender is a good idea for Rhett. Not sure about Mara as Scarlett but she might be okay. Cavill just isn't a good actor, though, so I wouldn't recommend he be cast in anything. Scarlett O’Hara – Saoirse Ronan Rhett Butler – Tom Hardy Ashley Wilkes – Nicholas Hoult Melanie Hamilton – Olivia Cooke The age gap between Hardy and Ronan is 17 years, which I realize is a lot... however, I’m fairly certain Scarlett is 16 at the start of the novel while Rhett is around 33 so it’s about the same. Maybe? Ronan and Hardy are both good actors but they would both be badly miscast for this. If anything I'd cast Saoirse Ronan as Melanie. As for Hardy, this is the same discussion that comes up when people want him to play Bond: he is many things, but smooth isn't one of them. At least not in any performance I've seen.

Lord, spare me an all-British cast! Meh. Better an English cast than one full of Yankees . Honestly though, the only pick I stand by is Ronan.

I think Hardy has the ability to pull off smooth... though I guess the closest he probably came to (at least that I've seen) is Eames in Inception. Admittedly though I picked him mostly because I think his physicality suits Rhett. As for Ronan however, I think it’s much too early in her career to judge whether or not she’d be miscast in the role of Scarlett. Just last year she got a lot of strong reviews for her portrayal of Abigail Williams in The Crucible, whose personality is a lot closer to Scarlett than Melanie. From what I have seen of her work, I think she could convincingly nail the shifts between Scarlett’s outward Southern belle persona vs. her true nature.

Ronan would be PERFECT for Melanie! Yeah, the more I think about it I could really see her doing it. Your idea for Fassbender as Rhett was good. Still no one today I feel strongly would be good as Scarlett, though.

Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone need to remake Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, and Roman Holiday asap. It will be called the trilogy of magnificence.
