Faye Dunaway, but Mattsby takes it out with Eric Roberts. When you have Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown, and Network on your resume, everything else can be forgiven.

Faye Dunaway, but Mattsby takes it out with Eric Roberts. I think it's her monstrous professional reputation that has relegated her to the work she takes now. This was my ringtone for like a year:

Just googled Faye Dunaway and it seems like she hasn't been in a good movie since Arizona Dream... And I mean really good movie.

I feel sorry for Dunaway. Movies can be exceptionally cruel to great actresses who were also regarded as great beauties. Once you are no longer considered fuckable, unless you want to do nothing but play sexless grandmas, many a great actress was kind of screwed. Dunaway notably aged, but did not want to be relegated to those thankless parts.
It's telling how the most recent generation of major movie actresses who have hit middle age or their 50's have taken full advantage of the advances in cosmetic science, so they don't quite leave the "fuckable zone". And it's extending all their careers (whether it's botox or facials with the placentas of newborn Korean babies, they are all doing what it takes to maintain). Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Sandra Bullock....all are clearly middle aged, but have taken care of their faces and bodies to stay at the top of the food chain.

Someone close to Bullock needs to give her the red light... The Michael Jackson memes surfaced right after Bird Box premiered. But yes, the other women all look fabulous.

If all these "tricks" you mention help many good actresses to "expand" their career, then I'm totally fine with it. It's only a shame some of the older ones kind of disappeared when they aged, like Dunaway or Jane Fonda (who returned after 15 years).

Beautiful in her prime, but also an extremely skilled and gifted actress. But once she aged a little bit and put on weight (thyroid related I think), the movie industry basically discarded her. So yeah, I'm glad this latest generation of middle aged actresses have the resources to make sure the industry can't dump them unceremoniously.

Was hoping his Oscar win would improve things, but he's still turning up in stuff like Hunter Killer. Hunter Killer was made before he even started shooting Darkest Hour. Not his fault the movie came out only after his Oscar win.

not that I think she's the greatest, so I guess this doesn't quite answer the OP's question, but Melissa McCarthy is better than most of her projects post-Bridesmaids. Hopefully this recent Oscar nomination baits her some more serious roles or hell, just better comedy ones because she deserves nothing less.

Not that she's the greatest or anything, but Nicole Kidman easily. Her career is pretty much a nightmare post-2004. I can't decide if her nadir is her double punch 2011 of Just Go With It and Trespass, or her Oscar contender Cannes debuting film Grace of Monaco ending up on Lifetime. And then in 2016/2017 she undeniably had a resurgence with a hit tv show, a filler oscar nomination, and a few warmly received if forgotten art films. She certainly hasn't been in a Best Picture winner, or a film largely regarded as the best of the century, but her 1999-2003 run was pretty cute I guess. It's hard to take this seriously when your signature features an actress who eats garbage films for breakfast. I think he had a point, but Nicholas Cage wins easily (from the Oscar Winner/nominated actors alive that trully become movie stars).- In fact both made Trasspass. But Kidman at least could argue, that she wanted a more comercial role, while Cage I guess, he still love the movie.- Dishonorable Mention. James Franco.-
