I decided to check this thing out after stumbling upon its Letterboxd page and finding nothing but raves upon raves upon raves for it.
Just finished episode 3 and it's been wonderful so far. Way less comedic than I'd expected and some of the political discussions are a little too on the nose, but other than that it's a complete gut punch of a show. The whole ensemble is magnificent, especially Edie Falco and Alan Alda. Laurie Metcalf's guest performance is one of the greatest of 2016, full stop.
Anyone seen it?

This was one of the big surprises of 2016. We found out about it like less than a week before the first ep dropped, I think. It might be one of the boldest endeavors from an American artist / filmmaker this century. That sounds like inflated praise but..... $5 million of his own money, inspired by Abigail's Party and Eugene O'Neill, CK writing directing and starring, rehearsing and rewriting during the week to produce, completely independently, what's essentially filmed live theater. It's formally like a sitcom, but the material so weighty and dramatic, with uncomfortable topics, serious issues, he's daring the viewer... and you truly couldn't tell what the next ep was gonna bring. Self-distributed on CK's site it also brings up the topic of distribution in the new era.
Metcalf's episode might be the highlight for me - not everything in the show works but that epic Metcalf monologue is some extraordinary writing and extraordinary acting.
It's too bad CK has been at least for now banished (sorry - but he shouldn't be grouped with Weinstein and Spacey, he got a raw deal, same with Aziz). I haven't seen I Love You Daddy but that was another bold project, own money, B&W film stock, seemingly commenting directly on Woody Allen.

What's the best way to see this (legally)? I think this show was originally on Hulu and not sure if it's still on there since Louis CK's whole...thing, but I'm not a Hulu subscriber in the first place. He has it on his website I guess?
