Impossible. Taron Egerton could though.

Maybe?
I think I'll like Rocketman this more than I did Bohemian Rhapsody; although, that's not really a difficult thing to do. Next year the competition might be a lot tougher in Best Actor though.
Plus, even if it's better received critically, I don't know that it's going to capture the magic that BR was able to with audiences. I love the music of Elton John, but he's still alive, and while he's on his last tour now, he's done Vegas as well as touring with Billy Joel and on his own too over the years. So while his music will still appeal to many people, some of those fans may have already seen in the not so distant past in concert or performing recently on television, and I don't know that they'll go see Rocketman multiple times like they did for BR.

Honestly? The simple notion of Rami Malek winning anything with that god-awful performance in BR has put the cinephile under such stress that can only be compared to 9/11 and maybe WW2. It's so unprecedented to see such a bad performance gather this much praise that it's put my faith and expectations from the film industry in a nihilistic, god-saves-us-all perspective. Literally anything can happen. Malek being the worst nominee of the century winning has made anything possible. So, Edgerton being a contender? There's literally nothing stopping him. Anything could fucking happen.

The date release doesn't help that much but looks better than BR. Can't wait for the Live Aid installment after a decade of musicians biopics culminating in such emblematic concent a la Infinity War

This actually looks decent but with the release date the studio is obviously not expecting it to be a contender.

Counting him out would be foolish. See the Rami thread where the majority said no to a NOD.
