Dana Andrews. I think he's one of the best Hollywood actors of the 1940s and 50s.
And Ramon Novarro.

I know she gets load of love in here, but Kirsten Dunst. Most people are surprised when they find out Mary Jane Watson won Best Actress at Cannes.

Unless they retired or died young, most receive sooner or later the recognition that they deserved. Nicol Williamson was one of the few, that didn't had the Hollywood recognition he deserved.-
I think we only can talk about US, Canadian, Aussie and british actors. Because foreign actors are much more difficult to sell in Hollywood. This year is Richard E.Grant year, an actor who has always a hit or miss, because of his skills talents, that finally was recognized.- Nicol Williamson is a fascinating actor who was covered thoroughly btw in the "Best Actor/Actress Across All Three Mediums" thread. He is a warning sign about how time and vice (in his case alcoholism) can hurt your legacy and career. Extremely gifted - arguably the most gifted - of his era and his era included Finney, O'Toole, Hopkins.

She's my go-to answer for questions like these but Kelly MacDonald deserves so much more recognition. And I just saw the first episode of Mrs. Wilson and Ruth Wilson is so divine.

Bokeem Woodbine. In a top-shelf season of television that was Fargo's second series, amid the all-time great performances given in that show, Woodbine stood tallest among them. And he's always a glorious scene-stealer, no matter how small the role (Mom and Dad and Overlord are recent additions to that canon). I need for this man to be in any Chester Himes adaptations in the future, or barring that, someone needs to write a Robert Mitchum-esque P.I. character for him to play.

Agree on Philip Baker Hall. Eric Bana always comes to my mind, when this question is asked. Loved him in Munich, he was easily the best thing about Troy, gave another strong supporting performance in Black Hawk Down and he was very good in Romulus my Father.I also think Rebecca Hall is one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Vincent Cassel is a truly great actor, as he has proven time after time (whether it is La Haine, L'ennemi public, Eastern Promises, Black Swan and so on). And if we stay in France Romain Duris has loads of talent as well. Such a grossly underseen little gem of a film . Easily his best performance right behind CHOPPER and DIRTY JOHN. Cassell is definitely not underrated , though. At least not in Europe.

Boardwalk's Pitt and Graham have already been mentioned. But how about Jack Huston? A very talented guy imo.
A bit more acclaimed (but still deserves more) is Jimmi Simpson. Didn't know him before Sunny in Philadelphia (in which he was hilarious) but he made some fine work after that: Seraphim Falls, Newsroom, Zodiac, Black Mirror, Westworld, House of Cards.
I think it's time he gets some major roles in feature films.

I caught the not very good X-Men Origins on TV yesterday and it reminds me how much of a fine actor Liev Schreiber is, as Sabretooth he's a perfect match to Hugh Jackman (who completely masters that Wolverine character). I remember when he was argued as one of the finest actor of his generation after his very acclaimed stage works (Glengarry Glen Ross, Talk Radio...), going head to head with America's finest (Meryl & Denzel), etc... but he still remains an overlooked and underused actors in Hollywood. I liked him in The Bleeder in the last few years and I know he's busy with his successful show (Ray Donovan) but I hope he can get a role to score an oscar nomination somedays, dude's such a talented actor.

I've sung the praises of Maxine Peake a lot lately, and I will sing them again, as she is absolutely an answer to this question, but I am also going to take some time out to throw the name of her Shameless sister Anne Marie Duff into the mix. I think Ms. Duff is a wonderful actress, with a effortlessly watchable presence. I had high hopes her career was going to rocket about 10 years ago, but it just didn't play out that way. Perhaps motherhood got in the way, I don't really follow those kind of things. Still, she's only just coming up to 50, so prime time for an actress Staying in the realm of British ladies for a little longer, a shout-out to Suranne Jones. She's very good, and I have high hopes for her future. So with my luck in that regard, you can consider her cursed. I'll also throw a mention to my ever underrated fellow Dub, Mr. Colm Meaney. This guys is a great character actor and never seems to get much in the way of credit or acclaim. Perhaps he just works too often and in not particularly high quality or interesting stuff.
