Just gonna stick with bands right now. When I throw in individual artists, it just gets too crazy. 1. The Beatles 2. Queen 3. Pink Floyd 4. Electric Light Orchestra 5. Rush Love me some ELO.

Top five rock bands-
Radiohead The Beatles The Rolling Stones The Kinks Blur
If I were to include jazz and other genres it would get too complicated. I've long thought of Radiohead as my favorite music act but I'm starting to think Miles Davis and Coltrane may be my favorite artists of all time now that I'm getting more sagacious as I age.

If I had to........I could quite literally listen only to the 16 studio albums covered in their "especially" years and be perfectly happy without needing any other music.......pffft
Replacements - especially 84-87 Rolling Stones - especially 68-72 Big Star - especially Radio City / Third but NOT #1 Record Elvis Costello - especially 77-80 Dylan - especially 65-66

For men, the most important period for forming musical taste is between the ages of 13 to 16. Men were, on average, aged 14 when their favorite song was released. For women, the most important period is between 11 and 14, with 13 being the most likely age for when their favorite song came out. Feb 12, 2018 Spotify Data

Feb 12, 2018 Spotify DataClose. 1999 and 2000 were the main 2 years that formed my music taste. 12 and 13. By 2001 (14) my interest in music just went precipitously down - but that had a lot to do with the conditions of my life that year. I moved, and that was hard and affected everything in my life. After 2000..... I rarely listened to popular music again. I started listening more in the last 5 years or so, but I went blank on popular music for the better part of over 2 decades - mostly, but it's pretty much being dominated nowadays by either solo female acts or black/rap.

Yep, most the first things I think of for favorite songs are from before I was even born (Strawberry Fields Forever, Bohemian Rhapsody, Rain Song, How Soon is Now, Life on Mars). Favorite song from my own life is I guess Radiohead's No Surprises and even then I was just 6 and didn't hear it until high school. For the period listed as important it might be one of the early Arctic Monkeys singles but mid 2000's is not a great period for music.

Most people listened to the radio/watched MTV only before getting into the classics tho. And they had a favorite song already (usually a popular one on the waves at the time), before that was supplanted by another one at a much later age.
