I dug this. There were surprisingly a good amount of twists & turns in it to keep me guessing & was entertained by it overall . and it surprisingly had a good amount of heart to it too . The lead did a good job. That being said , there was definitely some cringeworthy / cheesy dialogue thru out but it didn't hinder the film overall for me. A lot of good actors in this one (btw some damn good cameos too! You're gonna want to pay attention to one of them for sure ) Battle Angel is a face paced /sci fi spectacle that should be seen on the biggest screen you can find . Is it a cinematic game changer like say Avatar? definitely not but it still brought a good amount of entertainment to the big screen and I'd take Alita over a lot of these soul less reboots/sequels that Hollywood keeps shoveling out to the masses any day of the week.

Just came from seeing this, so I'm still thinking about it. I do agree that I wish that there were more original things like this in Hollywood than all the reboots and sequels, but I have to admit that I'm disappointed with the ending. I felt that it was set up just to create a new franchise, and I was disappointed that she never got to battle the big bad. I'm also not sure how the logistics would have worked out in her going up to Zalem by winning Motorball. I'm guessing that Nova would have threatened her dad's life more or would do something to stop that from happening. Maybe that's just me though because I usually need closure. Really enjoyed the action, and the world building. I could have probably done without the romance plot. It was okay, but by the second time that Hugo died. I couldn't help but laugh because I'm an asshole like that. It was just too cringey, and while Keean Johnson was fine for the most part, I don't think he was a strong enough actor to pull off that scene, or to make me care all that much about him. Rosa Salazar made for a good action star, and Christoph Waltz and Mahershala Ali did well. I'm not so sure about Jennifer Connelly though. I didn't quite believe that she suddenly grew a conscious again. For the most part I enjoyed it though, but I'm going to have to subtract one point just for letting the dog die even if it wasn't shown. So for me 6/10.

I had a bit of an adventure before watching the movie. When I go into the theater, I go looking for my seat, and I see other folks sitting there. It’s this married country couple looking like they stepped out of Duck Dynasty, scraggly beard and camouflage and all. I tell the guy he’s in the seat I reserved, and he actively refuses to let me have it, telling me he got there first (mind you, it’s reserved seating), and there’s plenty of space elsewhere if I want. Frankly, I didn’t want to, and I didn’t even feel like making a fuss over it anymore, because the smell was terrible. Not only did they have a filthy look, they had the sour scent to go with it, trashy with a side of cigarette. And they were all sprawled out with a bunch of snacks and jerky, the guy brought a filthy blanket in to cover his legs, and I’m pretty sure they snuck beer in. It was like being at home with Netflix to them, and they obviously had no decorum. It wasn’t worth the hassle, so I just went to the front desk to change seats (and reported them in the meantime ). Thankfully the staff working there was really nice and helpful, and I enjoyed my experience from a new seat. The movie was... decent. Frankly, I’m not sure if Cameron stepping in as director would have helped, since this is otherwise totally his movie (in some not so good ways). But it’s still mostly enjoyable, surprisingly brutal, and dazzling to look at. Salazar carries the hell out of this movie, and I really dug the set-pieces (I wish the rest of the movie had the energy of the Motorball sequence).

Haha damn man sorry you had to deal with that shit before the film started. People can be such self entitled pricks . Glad you found the film to be decent at least . And I agree the Motorball sequence was cool as hell .

I had heard about this scene, but I didn't know that it was out there on Twitter. I can't believe how happy I am over an imaginary dog.

I haven't seen it, but it seems the audience is very passionate about it.

Man is unhappy because he doesn't know he's happy. It's only that.

I see people are more sensitive about the death of a dog than of a human... Not a bad movie, but they're surely preparing a sequel.

Nothing strange about it, but we know that this is fiction and... dogs dying, man, that's just cruel. I haven't seen the movie, but as a rule, I don't mind seeing fictional people being killed or in distressful situations unless I've come to care for them. But dogs are innocent and cuddly.

It was a lovely dog indeed. But I've noticed that in disaster movies we see thousands people dying, but very rarely pets.

I was curious as to what a Robert Rodriguez movie would be if it had a huge budget...Turns out it'd feel pretty anonymous. I know this is basically Cameron's baby but I still wish there was some of that youthful vigor here that Rodriguez used to have. I guess years of failures kind of defeated him.
It's not a horrible film but it's just thoroughly mediocre. And it really fizzled out by the end, the thing really lost whatever steam it had. The effects on Alita herself are pretty awesome but the rest of them looked very cartoonish and there's barely any interesting world-building in this. The story is insanely basic and the script is just utterly pedestrian. I wanted this to be much more than it actually was.
