Russell Crowe had won an Oscar for Gladiator, but the next year he was sweeping awards for A Beautiful Mind, winning at the Golden Globes, SAG, BAFTA, and Critic's Choice. But then at the Oscars, Denzel Washington won for Training Day. Perhaps the Academy thought it was too soon to give Crowe another Oscar. Do you think something similar could happen to Ali? He's sweeping everywhere but also just won so could that persuade the Academy to give it to someone else? And if so, who?

Unlikely. Ali winning BAFTA and the Globe make sense as he didn't win those in 2016, and a lot of places like to do makeup awards for that . . . but he also took SAG. There's really no reason he would lose now, with this momentum. His film is controversial but he has been seen as the beacon of positivity in an otherwise problematic production, he has an insane amount of respect and goodwill (he apparently got the loudest applause at the Oscar luncheon) and he's an easy way to recognize the film even if voters want to throw their support to other films in different categories. If Grant were going to be able to derail him, he would've done so by now.

No. At the time, Crowe had gotten some bad press for an altercation with a reporter.

He's this years Denzel Washington rather, with his 2nd win, he joins that historic company. His win this year is potentially a shift in the Academy's BS thought processes too - Crowe (not my win, neither was Denzel) was the best thing in an awful film but went home with nothing while the film was celebrated - typical Academy stuff, happens all the time. But Ali, is just the best in the category by a mile - it's a genuinely great performance - they'd love to give it to someone else - but he's so good even the Academy can't mess it up. Which is really saying something....

Maybe you can find him and be annoying enough for him to punch you?

He seems like too chill of a guy to generate bad PR for his movie by smashing a phone or something.

Not impossible, but if the Academy gave two Oscars in a row to fucking Iñarritu, they probably won't have a problem with giving Ali a second in three.

No. Ali is well beloved and liked. And the opposite costed Crowe his second oscar. He was the huge favorite back in 2001. But then he had some controversies like the incident when he insulted the broadcast operator of the BAFTA's in a really bad and insulting way, which changed the race towards Washington. Without this he would very likely have won two in a row.

I don't think he's the kind of guy who lose control easily, this whole season speak for itself.

Which is really saying something.... The only thing Ali has in common with Washington is his race. He's going two for two in the supporting category. A notable feat, but one that puts him in the company of people like Christoph Waltz, not extreme perennials like Washington have have also scored in lead. You might as well compare Ali to Brando and DeNiro as well...they also have two Oscars after all. But it doesn't paint the whole picture. I see Ali's Oscar record probably playing out similarly to Jason Robards. At least one mmore nod, no more wins.
