Guys, Cynthia Erivo only needs an Oscar to complete her EGOT... Thoughts?

My earliest prediction of the year was that she'll get an Oscar nom and likely a win. Predicting Kasi for BD too, not to mention BP. Guys, Cynthia Erivo only needs an Oscar to complete her EGOT... I can't see on her credits that she's gotten a GG nom, let alone a win?

Can't believe I was so silly That being said, she should've gotten a nom for GG, Oscar, BAFTA, SAG etc. for El Royale.

She should be winning it this year, but it is what it is.
Erivo certainly looks like she'll be committed to the role and Kasi Lemmons is a decent enough director, but it's all gonna come down to the script on this one.

Maybe, I don't what is coming out in 2019 but if Blanchett is even remotely on form as Lucille Ball for Aaron Sorkin there will be some kind of coronation. Not saying they'll give her 3 but there'll be lots of talk about it but then there's Streep in The Laundromat and I'm not saying they'd give her 4 but......oh nevermind!!

Unlikely he'll have both ready by the end of the year. Otherwise, yes, she'd probably be a big threat based on name recognition alone.

that second shot is gorgeous. John Toll might get his first nomination since 1998

From Awards_Watch and Wiki, That's a great release date. We didn't have a Best Picture poll last month, but I think I might switch my vote to Harriet until the fall festivals happen. Of course, it might be one of those "this had buzz" films or just be an award vehicle for Cynthia Erivo, but it's so baity. I know that female lead pictures haven't done that well, but I'm not sure if anything else will have the potential combination of importance but also being relatively controversy free. It feels like a safe choice, at least on paper, imo, so voters may go that direction this year because of what direction they went last year.

Trailer coming next week per Twitter. Can’t wait for my girl Erivo to slay.

“Harriet, welcome to the Underground Railroad.”
As hilarious as that line reading was, the rest of the trailer looked pretty solid. I like the look of its aesthetic, and Erivo looks like she’s gonna be electrifying.

Yep, that looks solid and Erivo looks effing great. This seems to tick so many boxes for Erivo, that it's impossible not to consider her a strong early contender.

I’m genuinely shocked at how generic this looks. I was expecting something a lot more gritty and impactful. Officially worried.

I can't watch it right now but I have high hopes that Erivo will be the winner this year. Hope I'm not disappointed by the trailer.

Getting really tired of movies that are this "good for me" instead of looking like they are actually remotely good. This looks like a solemn Oscar bait - if ever there was a time for Scorsese's Irishman trailer to drop with guns going off THISCLOSE to peoples faces it's now.
Erivo looks aces and ..........I still..........don't care.

Yeah, I think it looked pretty solid too, and Erivo still looks like the one to beat. I'm even more confident now because this looks good enough that it will get a Best Picture nomination in field of 10 with Focus behind it and how baity it is.

Just saw the trailer. EXACTLY what the academy loves, especially in the last 2-3 years:
Real story. Real story of a woman. Real story of a black woman. Real story of a black woman who escapes from slavery. Real story of a black woman who escapes from slavery and helps others to get free from slavery.
Didn't really like the trailer but Erivo will win this.

Only one black woman in history has ever won in the lead category. Now Erivo very well may win, but history has not been on her side, so it's hardly a done deal.

Looks like one of those movies no one is really excited about but will drag themselves to watch because of awards hype (and that's also the only aspect of it that will be talked about). I'm not confident in its prospects if the general sentiment is that it looks generic and baity.

I'm saying everything the academy loves is there. Strong, dynamic women, people of color being the leads/heroes, fight against slavery and a biopic/based on a true story. After #metoo and the all-white-oscars, Hollywood seems to be very sensitive in such things. A little too sensitive if you ask me.

hmmmmm...i hate to say it but i feel like (going by that trailer anyways) that i've already seen this movie like five times. It does seem really generic. Erivo looks like a strong contender but I'm not going to call her a frontrunner any more. I still think John Toll looks good for a nomination and I'm more excited about that.
And tbh if we're going just by trailers alone, Renee Zellweger is looking a lot stronger at this point. Not just in terms of the performance but also her narrative is stronger.

I'll watch it just for Erivo, but it has the same old "made on a lab" aesthetic.

Looks pretty good. Ervo's performance in particular looks to be quite strong. I think if the film receives strong enough reviews, she has a good chance of winning.
