....Wow, I may actually need Criterion channel in my life.
You have no excuse not to watch The Little Foxes and The Court Jester. Look at Me is underseen and pretty good as well.

Jo Shishido passed away yesterday at 86, RIP. He was sort of the Belmondo of the Japanese New Wave, known for his yakuza roles and his "chipmunk" cheekbones. I highly recommend A Colt Is My Passport - which is on the Criterion Channel - for anyone interested in his slickness and badassery. It's only 84 minutes, a lean, highly stylish noir with an exciting spaghetti-western influence and an unforgettable finale.

Happy one-year anniversary! -- to the streaming service with by far the best catalogue of films, and the one with the absolute worst user accessibility and streaming capability -- here's to another year of (flawed) awesomeness and hopefully at least a longer life than Filmstruck! Will probably "celebrate" today by finally getting on something that's been sitting in my watchlist since like Day One...

I’d love to subscribe to this but I don’t think I’ll be able to convince my wife on the added expenditure when she in likelihood would never watch it.

I'd love to subscribe to this but I don't think I have the funds or the legal flexibility to convince my computer I'm American.

Are there actually good free ones? I don’t know tbh. I’ve only used one for a free trial period when I was out of the county for work.

Ok, I think I’m gonna try the free trial and then see if I can get my wife on board.
Throw me your top recommendations to watch.

Are there actually good free ones? Tunnel Bear It's free but you only get 500mb. If you want more, you have to pay. At least from what I can see.

This is the best investment I’ve made this year and I was shorting the stock market in late February/March

Is there anywhere on the app to just view the full current catalog available to stream?

Is there anywhere on the app to just view the full current catalog available to stream? Looks like "All Films" might just be a website only feature. I had actually never noticed that before since I rarely use the app.

Yeah, I adore the Channel for its selection obviously but the user accessibility has always been horrendous.

Some good'ns leaving Criterion streaming at the end of the month -
Three On a Match (1932) - Chute the chute precode at 60ish mins about three childhood friends now older and barely wiser and what happens when one of them desperately spirals out. Costarring a terrific Ann Dvorak, Bette Davis, Joan Blondell, and a silver-tongued bit part for Bogart.
Merrily We Go To Hell (1932) - Another precode! Dorothy Arzner's best imo, costarring Sylvia Sidney and Fredric March as a couple who merrily go to hell. Daring, humorous, heartbreaking.
Olivia (1951) - As if Ophuls directed Madchen in Uniform, actually fem-helmed and quite well made.
Shampoo (1975) - Essential American cinema costarring Beatty and a blowdryer. "Let's face it, I f'd them all."

Lotta great additions to the Criterion Channel next month. www.criterion.com/current/posts/7224-the-criterion-channel-s-january-2021-lineup16 Japanese Noirs, 13 Jane Fondas, and especially... 10 Bertrand Taverniers..........: The Clockmaker of St. Paul (1974), The Judge and the Assassin (1976), Death Watch (1980), A Week’s Vacation (1980), Coup de torchon (1981), A Sunday in the Country (1984), Life and Nothing But (1989), Daddy Nostalgia (1990), Fresh Bait (1995), Captain Conan (1996) I've had Judge and the Assassin on VHS for like a decade and never got around to it, so I got my eye on that. and 10 Peter Sellers.........: The Ladykillers (1955), I’m All Right Jack (1959), The Mouse That Roared (1959), Never Let Go (1960), Mr. Topaze (1961), Lolita (1962), Only Two Can Play (1962), Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), The Optimists (1973) Half of these are very rare and worth seeing, it's truly a feast for Sellers fans - he's especially against-type scarily violent in Never Let Go, absolutely Wilder-esque wonderful in Only Two Can Play, and best of all, the brilliant heartbreaking The Optimists. I haven't seen Topaze - his only directed feature - as it's been unavailable forever until now.
