Pattinson’s career doing the full 360? It seems he’s back in movie star mode now... Well, if there’s anyone who should know about being a bat, it’s a guy who played a vampire for five years. Almost all these actors who do their time in the indie/arthouse realm after being seen as blockbuster actors of limited range or talent, are simply being strategic. They like being in giant studio blockbusters that millions of people will watch. But they (And their management/agents) know it's hard to last the course if people think you have little talent. They can afford to spend a couple of years doing arthouse movies for credibility because they made so much money off their franchises. So you do a lot of arthouse films with respected directors...and once your "cred" is suitably built up, you can return to big bucks studio blockbusters. Kirsten Stewart has done it (now star of Charlie's Angels), Pattinson is doing it. Dakota Johnson is currently in her "arthouse credibility" phase after the 50 Shades Of Grey films...but soon as she and her agents think she's worked up enough cred, it's back to big studio films. Very few actors with star profiles are truly about that indie/arthouse life in the long term. I know what you mean but I kind of feel like Pattinson and Stewart may be sincere in their apparent love and respect for independent cinema. There are “indie” films with budgets that barely qualify as such. Films that are either immediately (or likely) to be backed by a major studio, with subject matter that isn’t too alienating and an a-list, awards friendly cast/director that stars usually take on for cred and awards. Then there are indie films that are so niche and uncompromising in either subject matter or tone that it’s clear even before filming that they’re not going to be seen by anyone and do anything awards wise. Stars looking for cred tend to take on the former whereas both stars here have largely taken on the latter. If they’re both taking on more commercial fare now, I’d assume it’s because they’re smart enough to know that they have to maintain a certain level of public awareness/visibility to continue to get their indie films and passion projects greenlit with ease. It’s been ages since Twilight, their A-list game can’t coast on that forever. And both are still signing up for indies as well.

I’m cool with a new iteration but Vanessa Kirby, who I really like, feels too close to what Hathaway already did in DKR.

Cool pick. I thought they’d go younger, though.

Happy about Jeffrey Wright being cast as Commissioner Gordon. I don't know how I feel about Jonah Hill being the Riddler though. He's a good actor, but because of his body type it seems like him being the Penguin makes more sense.

Hill has lost a lot of weight (at least he did last I saw of him.)
But I thought Penguin at first as well!
edit: well, hold on a minute now...

Jeffrey Wright is pretty snooze-worthy to me but Jonah Hill playing a bat-villain actually does sound sort of interesting. He's already in character, so greedy!

He's too often cast in these "dependable stoic" roles now, that it's easy to forget just how dynamic an actor he can be in wilder roles. This was the guy who played Peoples Hernandez in Shaft. I don't think he's had a role like that in years. I just worry that as Gordon he'll end up rehashing beats in characters like Felix Leiter, which I feel is a thankless role for him in the Bond movies

To me Wright is one of the most underappreciated actors currently working, who just happens to get cast in big franchise films from time to time. I'd much rather see him play a comic book villain, then another helpful advisory role that he could probably play in his sleep. Although if the rumors are true about the film being an adaptation of The Long Halloween, I could understand why he accepted the role, since Gordon plays a very large part in that storyline.

My mate made a suggestion earlier today that I can't get out of my head, Hill as Mad Hatter.

Hill as Riddler reminds me of Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Unconventional picks that could end up being great or terrible.

I'd love to see Hill as a Batman villain, I think he could be absolutely chilling in the right role. I can see him as Riddler (well, if he's in his Maniac shape) but would love more to see him as Penguin, esp. as that means that supremely annoying and entitled Josh Gad doesn't get it. I'm on the fence on Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, he's a good actor and it's nice to see him appreciated but it could also be very snoozeworthy.
