Pretty disappointing group so far, and Rhapsody is the worst BP nominee of the decade for me. Not expecting great things from Green Book or Vice, but The Favourite might challenge Roma for the top spot.

Definitely a weaker lineup than last year's, with only 2 in my top 10 of the year and only 4 that I'd actually rate as good.

only Favourite and Blackkklansman deserve to be here. There were a few nice surprises this year but the Green Book and Vice dominance really leaves a sour taste and this whole lineup is a disaster. And as inspired as all this Roma love is, honestly the more I think about that film the more I feel cheated by it. I mean, I'd rather Tevira get in over Foy or Robbie but she was barely in the film. Never front and center, never given a chance to shine. For that matter neither was Aparicio. It's always nice to be surprised but I can't act like either of them were deserved. And that's much more Cuaron's fault than theirs. Tevira especially was criminally underutilized and mishandled. ~masterpiece~1. The Favourite - 9.5/10 ~Very good~2. BlacKkKlansmen - 8/10 ~technically brilliant, emotionally hollow & artificial~3. Roma - 7/10 ~middling / decent / forgettable / whatever~4. Green Book - 7/10 5. Black Panther - 7/10 ~sha-ha-sha-ha-low~6. A Star is Born - 6/10 ~condescending, inept, tonally inconsistent dogshit~7. Vice - 4.5/10 haven't seen BR yet. I remember back in November when I was naive and innocent and thought I'd never have to.  |
