I mean, it's not like this franchise was ever funny in the first place.

I’m hella excited.
Guys, can you just imagine someone as dodgy as Jason Reitman, being given free rein for something with such a huge budget? This sounds like a fascinating train wreck in the making. I need to see it.

I'm fully ready to be lynched for this, but I'd much rather see him bring back the female cast and actually give them good material this time instead of continuing in the original timeline.
But that doesn't matter because he shouldn't do this either way. Remember Tully, Jason? Remember how good that was? Remember how many years it'd been since that was the consensus around one of your films? Do more of that, please.

Charlize Theron, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, and Mackenzie Davis.
Please make this happen Reitman.

Ghostbusters as a concept does not have enough steam to support more than one film. Not even the original cast could make a worthwhile sequel.

If you think you can find 5 comedies from this century funnier or more creative than that original, then you're dead wrong yet again.

the internet's gonna be pissed I don't see why. This is what they wanted originally. The main source of OTT hate for the reboot before a trailer was even seen was because it wasn't continuing the original story.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD sucked, and HOT FUZZ was funny but not hysterical. I loved IN BRUGES, GRAND BUDAPEST, and especially THE DISASTER ARTIST. But none of them are funnier or more unique than that original GHOSTBUSTERS concept. You're 100% right about IN THE LOOP being the funniest movie of the century, though my avatar is the TV show not the movie, and yes it IS also funnier and more clever than original GHOSTBUSTERS, but I stand by saying there aren't 4 other 2000's comedies that are as well.

Leslie Jones isn't too happy about this .
the original is a flat out comedic classic imo and one of my all time childhood favorite films. The chemistry between the Ghostbusters and all of the cast members for that matter was off the charts good. I'm pretty skeptical that a 3rd one will deliver but here's hoping Jason Reitman makes his daddy proud.

The remake would be hardpressed to find someone (outside of people posting in this thread apparently) who ranks it as the 28th best comedy of 2016 (a bit hyperbolic, but you get what I mean). I'm sorry but I went into it with a completely open mind (I never even watched the trailer) and the thing was just painfully bad and the effects were atrocious. Even the queen of at least elevating the absolute shit she's starring in, McKinnon, was just downright bad.

I think it's natural that the female reboot cast might be pissed off. They faced so much hate even before we had any footage, and two years later, they're erased from the franchise despite making some money and getting good reviews. Maybe a team-up with the two gangs would be a good common-ground.
Anyways, I think this could be good. We tend to underestimate Reitman because he had a few flops lately (Labour Day and that Internet Sucks flick), but those were dramas. All of his comedies are very good, and it's not like it's hard to pull off the humor of Ghostbusters. He's a better director than his dad, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

The funny part she is complaining about replacing the 4 women with 4 men when in fact that’s not going to be the case. The new team will be 4 teenagers, 2 male and 2 female.

I mean, I'm not too sure what would even be the point of this anymore? They had the first 24 years to come up with a Ghostbusters 3 (after II). The reboot was even supposed to be the third movie. My good guesswork is that they probably don't want Ghost Corps to go completely to waste--and that Dan Aykroyd probably needs the work.
