Take it with a grain of salt, as no major source has reported this yet.

Hollywoodreporter has reported it. Looks like talks are official. Awesome, they couldn't get him as Spider-Man the first time, so he might play one of the villains.
Honestly the most disappointing thing about the film, is that reminds me that we never got to see Bruce Campbell as Mysterio. What could have been.

Well hopefully this villain won't stink as much as the villain from homecoming, and hopefully the film wont stink as much as homecoming.

True story: When I first heard about Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler, I thought it was a movie about the X-Man. Out of all the superhero properties out there, Nightcrawler is one of the most interesting, if you get someone who respects the questions of faith and religion he brings to the table. I was disappointed that it was just Network on speed.
As for this: the first movie sucked and I have no desire to see the second. That said, Keaton was the best thing about it, what's wrong with y'all.

I didn't really like Homecoming, but Keaton was one of the best Marvel villains, so I have this to look forward to.

Mysterio’s one of my favorite Spidey villains, but with how wasted Vulture was (another one of my favorites), I don’t have a lot of faith.

As a mild fan of Spider-Man this is good news. As a bigger fan of JakeG this is terrible news

On board for this. Gyllenhaal is awesome, gets to be in a Marvel movie, and play a villain, and keep making interesting projects because he’s not bogged down with a hero role.
And Homecoming was great with Holland easily the best Parker/Spider-Man to date.

Yeah right, I bet Gosling was fighting tooth and nail to play the villain in an MCU teen flick. Sure.
As for Gyllenhaal, I mean, he is better than this and I wish he were signing up for more stuff like Wildlife and The Sisters Brothers instead, but it's not like it'd be an isolated stain on an otherwise spotless track record. If he's gonna do forgettable fluff, at least Homecoming was more enjoyable than Stronger.

This has me thinking; a Sinister Six movie with Gyllenhaal, Keaton, Hardy, Mando and 2 more, count me the fuck in.

For those thinking this role is "beneath" Gyllenhaal , remember he starred in this back in 2010 . I think he'll have a lot of fun playing a villain in the MCU . Hope its better than Homecoming .

Still better than The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 and 3, all three Thor movies, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Homecoming and Infinity War.

I'll admit a number of those films you listed are flat out awful . All I'm saying is that Gyllenhaal signed up for a shitty video game movie (when he was already an A-List actor at the time) . So he's certainly open to franchise type stuff.

Man he would have been my choice for a younger Dr. Doom. Either way, always good to see him.

A bit of a TV special vibe to it with them going on a trip and all that. Something here just doesn't entirely click.

No Tony Stark in the trailer has me hoping they’ll actually kill him off in Endgame — of course this could just very well be Marvel pulling our legs.

This looks more like a 2002 film than the 2002 Spider-Man movie.
Pretty awful trailer, poor pacing -- baffling focus on lame humor. It's not neat and it's not funny. Like why even spend the first 20 seconds of a Spider-Man trailer on some cringy flirting scene between Aunt May and Happy fucking Hogan. Also the story just looks forced. The Venice canal fight looks pretty cool, as does Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.
