Government shutdown stops FDA food safety inspections

I wish I could say I was surprised anymore by this tantrum throwing Cheeto, that I’m shocked that he’s literally holding America and it’s people hostage to stroke his ego, that he’s so unwilling to admit he’s done anything wrong that he backpedals taking the blame for the shutdown (ON TAPE!), and will continue to do so because he can never stand to lose, thinks the universe revolves around him, and lives in a bubble unaware that what he does trickles down and hurts people. The people he has repeatedly said he loves and cherishes, and now seems unphased that they’re going to suffer (And I can tell you there will be).

But I’m not surprised. There are no depths to his treachery at this point, and that this is the hill he’s willing to die on says a lot about what a raging narcissistic psychopath he’s become. Colbert made an observation that “it’s no surprise Donald Trump is willing to shut down the government, since it’s clearly not the one he serves.” But it’s not funny anymore. It’s dangerous, and it’s reckless, and the fact that his foresight is so narrow that he can’t see that he’s going to hurt people is appalling. If he isn’t a treasonous traitor, he’s still a traitor for stabbing his people in the back.

Part of me is so desperate for it to be over, that he just get the funding he’s demanding, but at this point, I don’t want it to happen. That’s just going to make things worse by encouraging that smug and vicious behavior, make him feel validated for holding America hostage, and using fear and threat to get what he wants. Yes, he may not have used outright violence to get it, but with this act of defiance, Trump has resorted to the tactics of a terrorist. Our sitting president has become the country’s own worst enemy.

Ive said it before, and I’ll say it again. If this goes on any longer, that bubble will eventually burst. He can cling and pander to his vile and prejudiced fanbase all he wants, but people will remember, and people will want to hold him accountable. And if it doesn’t result in impeachment or resignation, the best hope we have is that it’ll cost him the presidency in the 2020 election so he can fade into obscurity where he belongs.
